I began my personal practice in 1978 at a time when Yoga in Ireland was not so well known or available. I had the good fortune to find a book entitled Yoga and Health by Selvarajan Yesudian from which I practised on a daily basis.
From 1977 to '79 I also collected and absorbed some of the early Back to Godhead publications. This was the modest beginning of a collection of many books which over the years has grown into a library of thousands of titles on all as pects of Yoga, Philosophy, Meditation, Ayurveda, Sanskrit, Chanting, Buddhism and more. Eventually, wishing to study Yoga in more depth, in the 1990's I immersed myself in a 4 year Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training.
Then followed Ashtanga Teacher Trainings, such as 1st and 2nd Series with David Swenson (2001 and 2006) Teacher Training with Manju Jois (2008) to name some the highlights. I have also practiced in Crete with Cliff Barber and have attended many intensive workshops & retreats over the years with senior teachers such as, Shandor Remete and John Scott in many countries including, Ireland, England, Austria, Greece, Mexico and India .
I was very fortunate to have studied directly with Sri K.Pattabhi Jois and his grandson Sharath in Mysore on six extended vistis there. Since Guruji's passing in 2009 I still return to Mysore every year for up to two months where I practice Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Jai Prakash, a Senior student of BNS Iyengar.
Having studied Meditation (TM, Vipassana, Shinay) and Tibetan Buddhism over a 25 year period I became interested in exploring the philosophy of the Veda-s and so I was very grateful to have had the opportunty to study Vedic Chanting with Khrishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (Chennai). In 2009 I was Cerfitied as a Vedic Chant Teacher and I continue my studies today with Menaka Desikachar, Radha and other senior teachers of Mr. Desikachar in Chennai and UK.
Another extraordinary teacher I have been blessed to have been accepted as a student by, is Dr. Jayashree in Mysore with whom I study on a one-to-one basis Vedic Chanting, Upanishads and other texts each year.
